Comparative law notes
The divisions of a Brazilian law are: "parte" (Part), "livro" (Book), "título" (Title), "capítulo" (Chapter), "artigo" (Article or Section), "inciso" (Item), "alínea" (Subitem) and "parágrafo" (Paragraph). Because the name given to the subdivisions of laws varies from jurisdiction to jurisdiction (e.g., an "artigo" of the Brazilian Civil Code would correspond to a "section" of the U.S. Code), the translation should be adapted accordingly. In contracts, a "section" usually corresponds to "cláusula".
