The term "remedy" can be used as a translation of "sanção" only in contexts in which the remedy refers to a sanction, for example in the following sentence: "Congress's power to authorize federal remedies against state agencies that violate federal statutory obligations is coextensive with its power to impose those obligations on the states in the first place".
