"Filhos havidos fora do casamento": children born outside wedlock; children born out of wedlock. "Filhos havidos na constância do matrimônio" or "filhos nascidos de pessoas casadas entre si": children born in wedlock; children born during wedlock. The expressions "filho ilegítimo" (illegitimate child) and "filho legítimo" (legitimate child) are no longer used in Brazil. Article 227, paragraph 6, of the Brazilian Federal Constitution provides that "Regardless of whether born in or out of wedlock or adopted, children shall have the same rights and qualifications, and any discrimination with respect to filiation shall be forbidden".
