Definitions of direct sex discrimination
a situation where a person is clearly or obviously treated differently or badly because of their gender. An example of direct sex discrimination is where male and female employees are doing exactly the same work, but male employees are being paid more.
The Employment Appeal Tribunal found that less favourable treatment on the grounds that an employee is undertaking fertility treatment does not constitute direct sex discrimination.
