Definitions of quorum call
a procedure used by legislative bodies, eg the US Senate, consisting of calling out names from a list of the members to determine whether there is a quorum (=the minimum number of people that must be present to do business)
In rare circumstances, the majority leader can request a "live" quorum call because he actually wants all senators present for debate.
