Definitions of supremacy clause
section of the United States Constitution (=the set of fundamental laws by which a state is governed) which states that if there is a conflict between a national law and a state law, the national law governs (=controls the way that things happen)
The Supreme Court ruled that the state law violated the constitution under the supremacy clause.
