financial provision order

noun

Definitions of financial provision order

English

a court order telling a couple whose marriage or civil partnership has broken down how to divide their assets and income. A court may make a financial provision order if the couple is unable to agree between themselves how to divide their assets and income. The money may be in the form of a lump sum payment (=a single payment) or periodic payments, or both.

We are asked to decide whether the husband's non-disclosure led to a financial provision order substantially different from that which the court would otherwise have made.
