Definitions of district judge
(UK) a type of magistrate (=a person who acts as a judge in a law court that deals with crimes that are not serious) who is a qualified lawyer and who receives a salary. In the UK, many magistrates are voluntary and are not qualified lawyers; they are advised by qualified lawyers and are meant to represent the local community in a way that judges in higher courts are unable to.
