(DISCRIMINATION LAW; EMPLOYMENT LAW) a situation where a person's sex, religion, or lack of physical disability etc is a good reason for that person to be given the job instead of another person. An example would be a woman working at a shelter for abused women.
Under the new regulations, the Church has the right to treat people differently if there is a genuine occupational requirement that a certain post must be filled by a follower of the faith.
