(also: first refusal) if you have the first option on something then you are the person who has the first possibility to do it or decide it etc
Sudburgh FC has already agreed to a deal with Haller FC giving Sudburgh the first option on Will Firth should Haller decide to sell.
if something is your first option then it is your first or preferred choice
This option will also be more disruptive to build than the first option and will cost more to maintain over time.
