Although they serve the same purposed of providing the creditor with security, the secured creditor under this security arrangement in the US does not legally OWN the secured goods but instead has merely a perfected (registered) security interest in that property. Under the German concept of Sicherungseigentum, the creditor technically owns the secured property (collateral).
