In the US, there are also wage garnishment exemption rules that vary from state to state. Wage garnishment exemptions are a kind of wage protection that prevents the creditor from garnishing (taking) certain kinds of income or more than a certain amount of the debtor's wages. The idea is that citizens should be able to protect some wages from creditors to pay for living expenses.
