Comparative law notes
Unless the context is very informal and less legal, we recommend staying away from translating Nutzungsrecht as license in order to avoid potential confusion among German readers. The German law uses the etymologically related word "LIzenz" to connote more of a process by which one person (licensor) transfers (licenses) a certain subject matter (such as patent or "right of use") to another person (licensee). Unlike people working in the Common Law who use term "license" to also mean the subject-matter right of use itself, German lawyers will typically draw a more nuanced distinction between that right and the process of transferring that right.
