Nachlass

Substantiv

partial

estate

noun

Comparative law notes

Germany

Although the general concept of Nachlass is identical to that of a decedent's estate, a big difference is the way in which common law countries and the German government treat this left-over package of assets and liabilities, particularly under the respective tax laws. For example, the estate is not treated for German tax purpose as a separate entity, as it is in the US.
