In the US, there is no analogous concept that allows employees who reach a certain income threshold to opt into private insurance from universal public health coverage because there simply is no such health coverage in the United States. Nevertheless, once an employee in the US makes a certain threshold of income, he or she and the employer will not owe any more social security contributions beyond that threshold. In other words, there is a maximum social security contribution threshold.
