the ownership of land by someone who does not have the deeds that prove ownership because either they have been lost or destroyed, or ownership has been achieved through adverse possession (=a way of gaining title to real property from another by retaining possession for a period of time established by law and complying with certain conditions)
Possessory title to registered land can be obtained by applying to the Land Registry.
