a phrase used to explain why you have dismissed someone from your employment. The phrase is used in the case of dismissals that do not fall easily into the usual reasons for dismissal.
Employers faced with dismissing employees for 'some other substantial reason' should either make sure they follow the Code, or that they can justify why it was reasonable not to do so.
