Definitions of certificate of acknowledgement
an official document attached to a certain type of legal document in which a person (=the deponent) confirms that he or she has signed the document of his or her own free will. A notary also confirms that the deponent is the person who signed the document.
A notary public must specify in the certificate of acknowledgement what type of identification was shown.
