a court order that adjusts shares in property, especially one that was once the family home of a divorcing couple. In some jurisdictions, the court has the power to alter the share in the family home, make orders for immediate sale, or to delay the sale until any children have left home or until circumstances change.
The position is different if an application is to be made for a property adjustment order where the wife does not already own any legal or beneficial interest.
