Since adverse possession can also apply to personal property, this common law concept is not a poor translation for Ersitzung. As with the adverse possession of land, the requirements still apply; namely, the claimant must possess the property actually, openly, notoriously, exclusively, hostilely, under claim of right, and uninterrupted for the statutory period.
