Comparative law notes

Brazil

Small claims courts were first introduced in Brazil by Law No. 7,244/1984, which referred to small claims as "pequenas causas". Later, this law was revoked by Law No. 9,099/1995 and the term "pequena causa" was replaced by "causa de menor complexidade". However, the term "pequena causa" continues to be used informally.
