The "Ministério Público Federal" may act in criminal, civil and electoral cases as "guardian of the law". In criminal cases, using "Federal Prosecution Office" or "Federal Prosecution Service" to refer to the "Ministério Público Federal" is perfectly fine. In non-criminal cases, further explanation may be needed, depending on the functions performed by the "Ministério Público Federal" in the relevant case. In any case, we suggest that reference be made to the acronym "MPF". "Federal Prosecution Service" is the official translation adopted by the Ministério Público Federal (MPF) pursuant to regulation PGR/MPF No. 618/2014.
