Definitions of general damages
money damages paid as compensation for pain and suffering, disability or reduction in quality of life resulting from a civil wrong. General damages are awarded for those losses that are difficult to calculate or quantify (eg pain or suffering as opposed to damage to personal property).
She was awarded £10,000 general damages, £27,924 loss of earnings and £4,095 for the fact that she was unable to carry out some everyday tasks any more.
