In Brazil, the expression "direito líquido e certo" refers to one of the legal requirements for requesting a writ of mandamus ("mandado de segurança"), as set forth in section 1 of Law No. 12,016/2009: the petitioner ("impetrante") must show that there has been a violation or a threatened violation of a clear and indisputable right.
