noun

Comparative law notes

Austria

Formerly known to the common law as servant; as in a master-servant relationship. An employee benefits from a contract with another, the employer, for whom he or she has agreed to perform certain tasks, the venue, time and task specifications of which are set by the employer, in exchange for which the employer gives the employee money (also known as wages or salary). In the US, the definition of an employee is often the creature of statute. In other words, the term may be defined one way under labor law, and another under tax law.
